What Do You Boast About - 1
Some of Paul's writings have made me feel "he is so boastful!". This passage is one of them. But here in verse 17, Paul acknowledges that he is going to boast and that he may sound like a fool, but more importantly that it is against what God would have him do.
Although I am quick to recognize the boastful tone in some of Paul's writings, I am very slow to realize how boastful I sound very often! "Look at me, I cooked 3 dishes, cleaned all the vessels, and then managed to read a few chapters of that book I've borrowed from the library". Or "I got so much done at the workplace and then went home and cooked dinner and helped the child with his homework". I, me, mine, I did, did you know how much I did.... a vain vein of thoughts indeed. This verse tells us very clearly, if we didn't know it already, that God doesn't want us to boast of ourselves or our achievements or even our hardships ("I had a very sore back but i still managed to get all the laundry done and mop the floor!").
In everything we do or say, let us endeavor to bring Him the glory.
Lord Jesus, help me today to acknowledge you and your power. Help me to boast about you instead of boasting about myself, amen.
