Freedom In Christ

Galatians 5:1-12

Galatians 5:6 "For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love."

At the time of writing this devotional, it is Independence Day in India. 71 years and a few generations later, what does being independent mean to Indians? I bet most take freedom from foreign rule for granted, because they know no better. In summary, most Indians are lukewarm or cold about the independence from alien rule and about the freedom they enjoy.

Christ set us free from the bondage of sin. He set the Jews who would believe, free from being bound by the law. The old covenant dictated an adherence to the law and circumcision as a sign of one's allegiance to God and His covenant. The new covenant on the contrary demands wholehearted faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His redeeming grace. All it demands is faith, working through love. Are we lukewarm or cold today in our faith? Are we putting our faith at work through the love we have for God and for His children? Have we let complacency take over our lives?

Lord Jesus, we thank you for your precious and redeeming grace that saves us from condemnation. Help us to exercise our faith through love towards you and our fellow beings, amen.
